On The Easel - Still life with hydrangeas

"The best part about being an artist is that you don't have to copy the values found in your subject. Your job is to... decide how you can go beyond the references to alter or enhance the values." Tom Lynch

Step 4: Hydrangeas in rose bowl on lace doily

This one is coming along, the leaves are now taking shape. Stepping back a few feet and squinting my eyes, I can see the values need to be much stronger on the leaves. I will leave them for now and go back to working on the petals.

Tabletop is almost done, just need to adjust shadow values.....will leave this until the lace doily is complete. Several glazes have been added to the lace and it's definatley taking shape. Overall, I'm satisfied with it, just need to add more depth to some of the folds in the lace and a touch more detail to the mid-section that falls over the table.

The bowl is taking shape, some work still to be done on the stems in the bowl, the reflection from the doily and the water line.

I hope to have this painting done by the end of this week. However, the sun is shining, birds are singing and the yardwork is calling. Bulbs are just starting to pop their heads out of the ground, a few brave daffidols are close to opening......SPRING just could be my favorite time of year!

This is a photo of the new garden bench, my husband just finished building & painting for me. The pampered pooch sitting on it, is our faithful companion, named Kenya!

Thanks Ivor, your the BEST!
