A Toast to 2011! Happy New Year!

"Here's a toast to the future, A toast to the past, And a toast to our friends, far and near. May the future be pleasant; The past a bright dream; May our friends remain faithful and dear."

"Let this coming year be better than all the others. Vow to do some of the things you've always wanted to do but couldn't find the time. Call up a forgotten friend. Drop an old grudge, and replace it with some pleasant memories. Vow not to make a promise you don't think you can keep. Walk tall, and smile more. You'll look ten years younger. Don't be afraid to say, 'I love you'. Say it again. They are the sweetest words in the world."

 -Ann Landers

"I will seek elegance rather than luxury, refinement rather than fashion. I will seek to be worthy more than respectable, wealthy and not rich. I will study hard, think quietly, talk gently, and act frankly. I will listen to stars and birds, babes and sages, with an open heart. I will bear all things cheerfully, do all things bravely await occasions and hurry never. In a word I will let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious grow up through the common."    -William Ellery Channing

Yesterday's Gift Is Today's Treasure! Artist Laura Leeder

"Music and art both spring from a grateful heart."   Katie Wood McCloy

Yesterday was indeed a day of gift's!  After a day of baking and cleaning, I sat down at the computer with my glass of wine to check my emails before dinner.  And what a pleasant surprise I received!

Not ONE, But TWO....THREE of my paintings left the Painted Turtle Gallery for new homes!

"Golden Delicious"

"Healthy Pleasures"

"Comfort and Joy"

The first painting of my "Tea Cup" Series!

It brings me great joy when one of my paintings heads off for a new home.  Each painting celebrates my pleasure with life and nature.  Every one represents different challenges and teaches me something new. Thank You!

I am pleased and excited to announce that my latest project A Series

I am joining forces with the Creston Museum for their annual event "An Old Fashioned Tea"  in August 2011.

As part of my series, I will select and feature several of the Museum's teacups that are used in this annual event. Many of the paintings will be featured here on my blog, so pease, check back often.

Several of these will be selected for giclee prints and gift cards and these will be available for purchase through the Museum this spring.

I will be painting on site during the tea.  Everyone who attends the tea will have an opportunity to win an original watercolor painting from this series!

On The Easel - A New Painting That Celebrates The Season by Laura Leeder

"If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has power to move you, if the simple things of nature have a message that you understand, rejoice, for your soul is alive."    -Eleonora Duse

This small watercolor painting is coming along.  A few more glazes on the lace and then "fine tuning" where needed.
I am lucky enough to have 3 beautiful holly trees on our property.  I have cut some sprigs and brought them indoors and placed in a vase.  It's incredible how cheerful & festive they make a room feel.  This is the first time I have "attempted" to paint holly leaves, practise makes perfect!
Enjoy your day,
Laura Leeder

On The Easel - A New Painting That Celebrates The Season

"Content is more than 'subject matter.' It is all the feelings and ideas you bring to your painting."

I started this painting over a week ago.  It has sat in my studio, untouched for the last few days as I have not been feeling well.   Feeling better today, so I will work on this one for a while and post an update tomorrow, weather permitting.

December's Gift - A New Journey

"I think of art and painting as a journey, not simply a destination. I believe an artist needs to start by painting 100 works. Love the journey."   -Ken Campbell

I am pleased to announce that I have been accepted into the
Artist's International Gallery

What a great gift for December! This will help keep me motivated, and in my studio painting.  Looking forward to this new path on my artistic journey.

This holiday season may you find "comfort and joy" in the little things.  Sipping tea from an old and treasured china tea cup.  The beauty and joy in a single red rose...these are moments that can create memories to treasure....moments that we can take "comfort and joy" from in the future as well as today.

What holiday traditions do you find comfort and joy in?

On The Easel-Simplicity & Beauty in Everyday Objects-Teacups & Lace, Step 2

"When an object is the result of considered thought, brilliant interpretation, and skilled craftsmanship, it is a treasure to own, to study, and to glory in possessing."  (Henry O. Dormann)

©Laura Leeder, Watercolor
I've decided to eliminate the fussy pattern of flowers on the I want the focus to be on the rose and the beautiful colors found in the shadows that spill across the cup and down onto the lace. Slowly glazing colors....I plan to make this rose, a rich, deep red , so it will take several colors and glazes to do so.
Some of the colors used on the rose are: rose madder genuine,, mayan red, anthraquinoid red, permanent rose, and q.violet....all Daniel Smith watercolor paints!
Back to the studio and more glazing!
