New Gallery Representation

"Painting is an adventure to an unknown world. New ideas and concepts develop along the way."  (Ratindra Das)

I am so pleased to announce that I have been accepted into the "Artworks Gallery" in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Last week, myself, and an artist friend, whose work, had also been accepted, spent an enjoyable day at the gallery, hanging our work and getting to know some of the local artists.

Thanks Teddy, Sally and Julie for an enjoyable day.  Looking forward to this artistic adventure.

On The Easel - Developing Peony's with Limes, Still life

"I await joyous surprises while working, an awakening of the materials that I work with and that my spirit develops." (Odilon Redon)

I have started to block in the leaves and peony flowers.  I am underpainting the left peony with a varied blue wash, and will do the same with the right peony, using a more violet wash.  I am hoping this will push the center peony forward,as well as helping to develop a distinctive color for each flower.
More later....
Bye for now,

On The Easel - Still life painting, peony's with limes

"Isn't it amazing how often we don't take time to truly appreciate something until we no longer have it?... It seems we get so caught up with "doing life" that we forget to stop and breathe into the moment and simply take stock of how good it is to be alive."
  (Dr. Dennis Merritt Jones)

Peony with limes (not the title), step 1.  The background is in; I've placed miskit around the flowers  to protect the edges of the petals.  The background was completed with 3 full glazes and a fourth, just around the limes and some of the petals, adding a variety of purples to balance the blues and push the limes and pink petals forward.  More to follow.
Enjoy your day,
Laura Leeder

On The Easel - Painting, Single Peony

"In terms of art, the only real answer that I know of is to do it. If you don't do it, you don't know what might happen."  -Harry Callahan

Okay, so here is my rendering of a single peony.  The photo for this painting was taken in 2008.  I don't recall the name of the variety of peony.  It does reminds me of a double tulip, though.  I've signed it and will put it away for now, as I'm eager to move on to my still life with peony's and limes.

Time for a coffee break,
Laura

On The Easel - Single Peony

"I must always have a clear image of the form of a work before I begin. Otherwise there is no impulse to create."   - Barbar Hepworth

I have never painted peonys, so this single peony painting will be my practise run.  Back to my studio....the question is....will it become a small painting or scrap paper?

Stay tuned....
