I've added the pattern to the cup (looks confusing right now) and just enough color on the whole painting to allow me to concentrate on the tulips.  I'm working very slow on each petal, trying not to lose all the whites.  As I continue to develop the petals, I can't help but wonder, why in the world didn't I choose to paint purple, red or even orange tulips!   Oh, how much easier it would have been!

Have a great weekend,

"Look at the trees, look at the birds, look at the clouds, look at the stars... and if you have eyes you will be able to see that the whole existence is joyful."   ~Osho

I haven't done a painting with tulips in a very long time.  While shopping for groceries, these delicate pink tulips beckoned to me from the florist aisle....how could I resist?   The sun co-operated, appearing just long enough for me to grab a table, lace tablecloths, various vases and head outdoors to shoot several set-ups.

While I photographed the chickadees kept me company, flying from perch to perch, chirping happily. A flicker sat in the feeder, in the warmth of the sun, guarding his suet.  In the distance I could hear the Robins and it made me smile....is spring around the corner? And then the sun disappeared behind the clouds.  And just as quickly, the chickadees flew off, disappearing deep into the blue spruce.  The flicker, sent me a knowing look and it too flew off, leaving me alone to ponder the early arrival of the Robins and how good it felt to be here.

With a grateful heart,

Chrysanthemum's - Watercolor Painting by Laura Leeder

"Just living is not enough....One must have sunshine, freedom and a little flower."         ~Hans Christian Anderson

Chrysanthemum's - A Bowl Of Pure Happiness
    Laura Leeder, Watercolor, Feb.2012

This painting is finally finished.  I took over a week to study it and made a few small adjustments.  I must confess that glazing all those layers of yellow, orange, and red was challenging.  The experience was worth it, and overall, I'm happy with this painting!

The Chrysanthemum is called the Flower of Happiness, and was so revered in Japan, that only the nobles could grow it.  It has been grown over 2,000 years throughout  the far east.

Did you know that Chrysanthemums are used in tea for medicinal purpose?  The flower is also considered a natural source of insecticide and has been proven to reduce indoor air pollution.

This special flower represents cheerfulness, optimism, rest, truth, long life and joy.  Quite impressive!

Giclee' Prints of this painting coming soon.....
Not sure about the title....any other suggestions?

Wishing you a day filled with happiness,
