Scenes From The Pink Garden Tea Fundraiser

"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass - it's about learning to dance in the rain!"

Pink Garden Tea Cancer Fundraiser
July 27 & 28, 2012

We enjoyed a dessert tea Friday evening and a High Tea was served on Saturday afternoon.  As you can see, the weather co-operated.

This print was part of a silent auction to help raise funds for a new mammography machine for the East Kootenay Regional Hospital.  It went home with a lovely lady whose privacy I am respecting.

These three wonderful women are the heart and soul behind the Pink Garden Tea.  Their helpers were Glory Jacklin who took care of the food prep, Maisie, a pretty young girl and our delightful server.  Debbie and Susan's brother Ron Lancaster, who also helped serve tea, and his wife, Carmen, cancer survivor.

Not only was the food good, it was beautifully displayed.

It was a wonderful event and we had a great turnout.  Debbie is still tallying up her expenses, but feels that a sizable sum of money was raised.  Thank You to everyone who attended, I look forward to participating again next year!

Summer is moving along....

To make art allows one to appreciate others: to see what's happening. To look inside yourself."       ~Melanie Circle

The warmth of summer has finally arrived here in the Creston Valley.   I spent one afternoon this week creating at Cherrybrook Farms with Win Dinn.  We sat on the back deck looking out onto the Orchards and  enjoyed our view of the valley surrounded by mountain's.

Once a weekend painter working in Edmonton, Laura Leeder came to Creston seven years ago to start the next chapter of her life. She spent some time beautifying her new home, and in the past four years she has been able to focus on her watercolour paintings and carve a niche for herself in the Creston arts community. She has worked closely with Emmie Roelofse of Creston Professional Framing and Art Gallery, in developing a professional line of limited edition giclĂ©e prints—and she has set up an online store where she sells her prints and greeting cards.

A Plate Of Cherries, Painting In Progress By Laura Leeder

"The most demanding part of living a lifetime as an artist is the strict discipline of forcing oneself to work steadfastly along the nerve of one's own intimate sensitivity."

Summer has finally arrived!  The forecast for this week is sunshine and high 30's!  I am trying to finish up a few projects so that I can take some time off and just relax.
It takes a lot of discipline and determination to stay on track especially at this time of year.  This is when my Weekly "To Do" list really comes in handy.   It keeps me on track and on target to reach my goals.  And one of my goals this week is to finish this cherry painting!   Off to the studio.....

Wishing you a sunny and creative week,

ArtWalk Venue Cherrybrook Farms, 2012

This year I have the pleasure of displaying my work along with mixed media artist Win Dinn at Cherrybrook Farms.  This is part of the Creston Valley Eastshore ArtWalk and Studio Tours that runs this July and August.

Gord and Caroline Martin operate this family run orchard with their children, Peter and Laura. Their fruit stand boasts a variety of local fruit and offers a variety of merchandise including family shares in a cherry tree, Dutch treats, and souvenirs and just in......Old Gouda and Spiced Gouda cheese!  I can't wait to try some!

I will be at Cherrybrook Farms this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon to paint.  They have a large covered deck out back that looks out onto the surrounding cherry orchards. There is also a miniature town with it's own railway set up, out back.

I can listen to the birds and the hum of the trains moving across the tracks while admiring the beauty of the orchards.  Now doesn't that sound nice?

If you are out and about today or tomorrow, please stop in to view the artwork, check out the variety of local fruits, and merchandise.  Enjoy a coffee, tea or cherry juice and taste the baked fruit treat of the day.

Cherrybrook Farms is located in the scenic Creston Valley at 2215 Erickson Road and their new fruit stand is at 2931 Highway 3.

Please note:
All participating ArtWalk venues will have a poster displayed.  Make sure you pick up your passport / brochure provided by any of the participants, get them stamped or validated at any five venues, and enter to win a $50 gift certificate for artwork of your choice.  Simply place your name and phone number on the brochure and submit to Kingfisher in Creston.

Have a great day,

"I am sure it is a great mistake always to know enough to go in when it rains.  One may keep snug and dry by such knowledge, but one misses a world of loveliness."

We have been getting a lot of rain throughout BC and here in the Kootenays our rivers and lakes are spilling over.  Ivor and I took a drive around the Creston area the other day to see some of the flooding for ourselves.  I thought I'd share a few of the photo's.

Clearly there will be no boats launched anytime soon.  All the boats have been removed from their slips, all I wonder where they all ended up?

A change in the forecast, today is the first day in week's with clear skies and sunshine. With any luck I can photograph what's left of my roses tomorrow, as we are anticipating a few more days of sunshine and high temperatures......

I've had a few, very busy weeks, working on some possible future projects....I hope to announce one of them in the next few days.  I am also working on my website and giving it a new look with the option to buy artwork directly from it.  It should be up and running by next month.

Creatively yours,
