Powder Creek Falls, Kootenay Lake, BC

"When summer opens, I see how fast it matures, and fear it will be short; but after the heats of July and August, I am reconciled, like one who has had his swing, to the cool of autumn."      - Ralph Waldo Emerson

We enjoyed a day of boating, followed by a picnic on the beach at Powder Creek with friends Don & Cori.   Powder Creek is a beautiful spot on the north-east end of Kootenay Lake.   We often fish at the mouth of the creek for kokanee and trout.

However, on this day's trip we moored the boat to enjoy a picnic lunch.  Just a few minutes walk through the forest is an unexpected and stunning waterfall.

Another enjoyable day on the Kootenay Lake with friends and good weather!

As August comes to a close I find myself thinking about getting back to painting and my art business.  I've been thinking about both over the last few weeks and the direction I want to explore this fall and winter.  (More on this in the next few weeks)

I'm currently working on completing several paintings for the upcoming Images Art Show and Sale this November here in Creston.

I've also photographed several floral set-ups that I am excited to start painting this fall as well.  Some of which will be featured as new greeting cards.

In the meantime, there are a few more trips to the lake and beaches we hope to explore before the summer temperatures start to dip.

Listening To The Kaslo Jazz Festival On Kootenay Lake

"Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair."  ~Kahilil Gibran

Title:  The Kaslo Jazz Festival

The last 2 weeks has been filled with long lazy days of sunshine, snorkeling, boating and idle afternoons lounging at the beach.

We spent an evening on the water listening to the music at the Kaslo Jazz Festival.  This was our first time and while the music was enjoyable, it was the "people watching" that was the most entertaining.  The highlight of the night was when the sun sank low  behind the mountian's and the evening sky was lit by the lights of the Kaslo Festival.

Here are a few pictures from that evening.  I wanted to take photo's of the boats and people that were beside us; and at the same time, I chose not to do so as to respect their privacy.  So it might look like there were not many boats in the water, in reality there were were quite a few!

Summer Is Here And That Means Time For Play!

“I have always loved the beach. The smell of the salty water, the wind in my face, the gentle roar of the waves all combine to create a sense of peace and calm.”
 ~Anonymous

©Kenya, my beach loving companion!

This is Kenya, my 9yr old teacup Yorkshire Terrier. She loves to hang out at the beach, exploring and wading in the water.  She is insistent that I take time off this summer and play!

So I am taking a break from blogging and all other social medial for the next two weeks and everything else that is part of my regular routine.  No time table, no daily to-do list, no daily work and  no painting.   We have out of town friends visiting and plan to enjoy some time with them.  On the list of play is boating, fishing, picnics, and time spend idly at the beaches along Kootenay Lake.

I wish each of you long, lazy summer days filled with happiness and friends!
