It's Summertime In The Kootenays!

"I am Summer, come to lure you away from your computer... come dance on my fresh grass, dig your toes into my beaches."   ~Oriana Green, Nature Spirits

It's summertime in the Kootenays and as June comes to an end, I am busy filling my hanging baskets and planters for our lakeside retreat.

Lot's of petunias and fuchsias to attract the hummingbirds.  And talk about hummingbirds!  There are so many zipping around here in the forest.  These colourful little birds are pure pleasure to watch!

Yellow pansies for a shot of sunshine, plus punches of vibrant colour and plenty of texture for interest.

What a wonderful welcome each time we arrive for a stay!

On this last visit, lot's of wild daisy's were dancing along the forests edge.

On each visit, I also bring a fresh bouquet for the table inside.  Now it feel's like home!

I'm clearing my calendar and getting ready to relax and enjoy the summer months.  For me, that means more time spent outdoors enjoying nature.  With frequent trips to the lake, walks through the forest, plenty of time spent boating/fishing and long, lazy days at the beach. But, most importantly, I will be spending far less time on the computer.

Thank You for taking the time to visit my blog throughout the year.
I'm wishing each of you a warm and relaxing summer.

2014 Pink Garden Tea Fundraiser Painting Is Finished!

"The very sight of a teapot puts a smile on the face of most people. One cannot help but  think of more serene and genteel times. From a whimsical child’s teapot to an elegant English Teapot, to collectibles that adorn some homes, they are a subtle reminder of all that is good in this world." Barbara Roberts

A Walk On The Wild Side?

"There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore,  There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep Sea, and music in its roar:  I love not Man the less, but Nature more."  ~Lord Byron

This week I'm sharing some photo's I took while on a few days of R & R last week........

A sculptural effect deep in the forest......

Even on a wet and overcast day there is textural beauty to be discovered....

And decisions to be made.....over or under?  (I'm not saying what I decided....only that next time I do the opposite!)

I find the patterns and shapes made by these fallen trees with layers of moss and fungus so interesting....(definitely under!)

These scenes are even more beautiful when the dappled light of the sun streams through......  (sadly, not today)

I walk along the beach in anticipation.....what new treasures have drifted to shore?  This mass of driftwood with tangled, aged roots makes for an interesting study and stopping place to admire the beauty of the scene before me........

A powerful reminder of Mother Nature's strength........

I studied this log for some time while listening to the sound of the water lapping against the shoreline, and the breeze rustling through the forest behind me.  A truly relaxing and refreshing experience!

I'm back home and in the studio finishing up my chintz teapot painting, tackling the abundant growth of weeds in my garden and packaging orders of my newest set of floral cards and bookmarks.

Happy Friday everyone, while my weekend will be a busy one; I hope yours is a relaxing one!
