Pink Dogwood Blossoms, My Newest Watercolour Painting Is Dipped In Gold & Laden With Pearls!

"The process of image-making is the evolution of an idea, the pursuit of which can be like following clues in a treasure hunt. One discovery leads to another."  ~Richard McDaniel

The Dogwoods are one of the first trees to bloom in early spring.  Here in the Creston Valley, both grow equally well.  The pink blossoms, however, are absolutely stunning. I read that the colour of these blossoms deepens as the tree ages, never giving you the same colour twice!
The fruit of the Pink Dogwood is also an important source of winter food for many songbirds, including robins, cardinals and waxwings. Even Wild Turkeys!

The idea for this painting was developed earlier this spring with my White Dogwood Blossoms painting.  You can read about it here.

Where There Is Tea There Is Hope...

"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around."  ~Leo Buscaglia

My Garden Party Print Goes To A New Home

Thank You so much Diane for your purchase of this print in the Pink Tea Silent Auction.          I hope you will enjoy it for many years to come!

The tea is about "Women supporting Women" and this years theme was Friendship, Roses and Royal Tea.  The funds raised on Saturday the 19th, will be given to the East Kootenay Foundation For Health in support of new equipment needed in the maternity ward of the Creston Hospital

This was my third year participating in this annual Pink Garden Tea fundraiser (now in it's 5th year).  I continue to be amazed and impressed by these tireless organizers and hosts of the Pink Garden Tea.  Each year they put on a fabulous spread and go out of their way to make everyone in attendance feel extra special.  For example my table had the honour of being served with the beautiful chintz teapot and china that was the inspiration for the above painting! (how thoughtful is that?!)

This year two special artist friends joined me in donating to this event.  Eileen Gidman and Win Dinn donated gifts for the door prizes.   See Eileen's blog post here.

They are truly amazing women and each year their efforts remind me that a gesture (small or large) from each of us can make a huge difference in someones life.

This quote says it all!

Thank You once again Debbie, Susan and Cindy for a wonderful afternoon of pampering!

Eastshore Kootenay Lake ART Connections ~ Opening Reception

"Then you will find, if nature has granted you any imagination at all, that you will eventually acquire a style individual to yourself, and it cannot help being good; because your hand and your mind, being always accustomed to gather flowers, would ill know how to pluck thorns."  ~ Cennino Dennini

~Kootenay Lake Art Connection~
  From June 27 to September 2, 2014

The Eastshore Kootenay Lake Artwalk is in full swing.  We celebrated it's opening at a the Wynwood Cellars Winery in Wynndel, BC.  Participating artists were invited to bring a painting to the opening reception for possible inclusion in the winery for the summer.  A panel of judges made the selection and I am thrilled to say that my painting "Harvest Time" was one of the paintings selected for sale and display in the winery tasting room.

More of my paintings are on location at the Wedgewood Manor B & B, Crawford Bay and at the Nelson and District Credit Union Eastshore Branch at Crawford Bay.

Here are some scenes from the Opening Reception at the Wynnwood Cellars Estate Winery.

3 Friends, 3 Mediums ~ A Summer Art Show

"There is a wonderful feeling when you walk into your own exhibition. You see the work as a true extension of yourself. Win or lose, your interests have led you to an accumulation of your personal expression, signed lower right, mounted to best advantage." ~Robert Genn
