Half Dressed These Poppies Boldly Dance

"I am mindful to allow for the joy of exploration and discovery within the framework of each of my works."  ~Tom Francesconi

Ruffled Poppies, Painting In-Progress by Laura Leeder, August 25, 2014

Half dressed (in shades of yellow, orange and red), these poppies continue to boldly dance in the summer breeze! ( I couldn't resist thinking of them as half-dressed and playing.....just like the children I watched at the beach last week.)

While at the lake we enjoyed several days of play.  Every afternoon we sat at the beach, with our feet in the sand or water, enjoying a soft summer breeze while watching the waves roll into the shoreline.  We also enjoyed a day of fishing and of course, evenings by the camp fire.

While we didn't catch the big one, we did bring in a few meal sized trout.  A glass of wine in hand and fresh pan-fried trout in coconut oil..... how delicious!

Feeling refreshed and relaxed, I picked up my brushes again this weekend and here is the result.

This earlier step clearly shows the stages of layering transparent watercolours (both warm and cool) onto the paper.  The final layer will be in acrylic metallic paints with each poppy outlined in ink.  The centers will be finished as a last step.

Thanks for stopping by and with summers end fast approaching, I hope that you will make time to get outside and enjoy what nature has to offer!

They're beauties already, Laura - half-dressed or not!

Dear Laura - these are so lovely. Am really looking forward to seeing the metallic paints and the ink work. Take care and enjoy these last precious days of August. So hard to believe Sept. is less than a week away.

What a variety of shapes you have gotten in the poppies. Yes they do look as if they are dancing.
