Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Thank You!

Whatever is beautiful. Whatever is meaningful. Whatever brings you happiness. May it be yours this holiday season and throughout the coming year.

©Marsala, Vintage Rose, Watercolour and Ink by Laura Leeder

May all the sweet magic of Christmas conspire to gladden your heart and fill every desire.

A very special 'Thank You' to all my visitors of this blog over the past year.
I wish each of you peace, goodwill and happiness this holiday season and in 2016!

I'm taking the next 2 to 3 weeks off from posting on this blog.  After taking a short break in these next few days, I will be busy behind the scenes reviewing this past years achievements, tackling some of the unfinished projects and planning and preparing for an exciting and creative 2016.

I leave you with these words by Anne Landers:

"Let this coming year be better than all the others. Vow to do some of the things you've always wanted to do but couldn't find the time. Call up a forgotten friend. Drop an old grudge, and replace it with some pleasant memories. Vow not to make a promise you don't think you can keep. Walk tall, and smile more."

See You In 2016!

With a grateful heart,

A Yearly Ritual Plus A Sneak Peak At A New Painting In The Teacup Series.

Art is more than a product of your efforts – it should be about feeling, life, attitude, soul.   ~Sergei Bongart

What painting or studio rituals do you perform?

As another year comes to a close and before the new year starts, I like to clean my paint palette and take an inventory of all my tubes of paint.  This is a ritual that I have been performing for a few years now.

After I re-fill the wells of my now clean palette with fresh paint.  I then record the quantity of each tube of paint by colour category.  I note if it's a warm or cool version of the colour, any special features.  I note any new colour I'd like to try or existing ones that I will use-up and delete.  Only then do I feel ready to start a new painting.

Of course this ritual must also include a fresh vase of flowers to delight the senses and inspire the creative muse.  (I was surprised to find these freesias at my local grocery store and even more so by the intoxicating scent they emit.)

Now I'm ready to paint!  I refer to my test swatches of my watercolour paints and select my colours.

Here's a sneak peak of the teacup painting a little further along.  I've used miskit to save some of my whites on the cup and saucer.  As you can see here, I always keep a scrap of wc paper nearby to test my colours before I touch the painting surface with my loaded brush.  I'll keep working on this one, in the meantime......

Thanks for stopping by, have a super weekend!

The Solstice Barn, An Old Fashioned Art Sale And Holiday Celebration

Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful.  ~Norman Vincent Peale

©The Solstice Barn, pastel by Carol Schloss
   (used with permission)

Last week I had the pleasure of attending an old fashioned holiday celebration and sale, hosted by artist Carol Schloss on her property in the Creston countryside.

This character barn as depicted in the painting above, was totally transformed into a  festive, winter destination that immediately put you into the holiday mood.

The visual feast started at the entrance to the barn where tables were set up with a display of handmade holiday wreaths, floral baskets and candle holders perfect for your holiday decor.

Even the trees are decorated with homemade snowflakes.

Inside an old wood stove billowed out smoke while keeping the barn warm. There was hot apple cider to sip while you explored the inside of the beautifully decorated barn.  The twinkling lights lent an air of warmth and coziness.

There was a variety of holiday decorations available for purchase.....

Even a wide range of christmas baking, all packaged for gift giving.

From jams and jellies to mouth watering baked goods.

Including chocolate treats and more beautiful homemade wreaths.

Artfully displayed for sale throughout the barn was Carol's pastel paintings.

Along with many of her reproduction prints,

Cleverly displayed here are fine art cards, featuring more images of Carol's artwork.

To see more of Carol's delightful paintings you can visit her website here.

Her paintings celebrate nature and are often of everyday scenes that she deftly transforms into spectacular images of light and colour as can be seen here in Evening Enterprise.

Back at home, I put the kettle on to enjoy a cup of tea along with the treat's I had purchased.  Hmmm, it appears that someone else got to them first!

Thanks for stopping by, have a wonderful week,

I'm Back In The Studio With A Newly Completed Teacup Painting!

"The days may not be so bright and balmy—yet the quiet and melancholy that linger around them is fraught with glory. Over everything connected with autumn there lingers some golden spell—some unseen influence that penetrates the soul with its mysterious power." ~Northern Advocate

Celebration Tea, Watercolour (6.75 x 8 inches), September 2015
By Laura Leeder

Autumn ~ The year's last, loveliest smile is here......let's celebrate with a hot cup of tea, sitting outdoors, amidst the ever-changing colours of the season and under the warmth of the late afternoon sun.

I spied this blue and white teacup on the shelf of an antique shop and fell in love with it! I'm thrilled to be adding it to my small,  but growing, teacup collection.  Here, I've paired it with three rose begonias in autumn shades of yellow-gold with a hint of burnt orange and crimson red.   While they bloom through out the summer, they due particularly well in the cooler, early fall weather.

Reproduction prints and notecards available soon.
(Send me an email if you are interested.  E-mail:

It feels so good to be back in the studio creating again! I've spent most of my summer and early fall, at our lakeside retreat. I'll be travelling over the next two weeks visiting family.  So I won't have a new post up again until the end of the month.

Thanks for stopping by, your comments are always welcome, have a wonderful October!
