I Won And So Did You!

"Artists are among the most generous of people. Perhaps inherent in the appreciation of creativity comes a deep, underlying love of humanity and our Earth."  ~ Kelly Borsheim

I WON!  THANK YOU ANNE!

This beautiful painting by North Carolina artist Ann Thompson Nemcosky arrived in my mailbox last week.

As part of a sales promotion through her Etsy Shop, Ann held a draw to give away one of her original watercolour paintings and lucky me, as I happened to be the winner!  This painting is a wonderful and unexpected gift that I shall treasure.

To see more of Ann's work please visit her website, blog and like her facebook page.

In last week's blog post I gave away two packages of my art notecards and 5 single cards. The winners of the single card giveaway are:  Win, Gill, Catharina, Celia, and Sidmar.
(I will be emailing you)  A special thanks to Judy who has previously received a card and suggested that I not include her this time around.

And here is a sneak peak at a new painting that I have been working on.......

And The Winner Is................

None of us got to where we are alone. Whether the assistance we received was obvious or subtle, acknowledging someone's help is a big part of understanding the importance of saying thank you.  ~Harvey Mackay

As I mailed off yet another order of my gift packaged teacup notecards yesterday, I was filled with gratitude and appreciation.  I could not have imagined that one day, I would be creating paintings with teacups and lace and producing notecards of these that would travel around the world to new homes!

This month I am saying "thank you"  to all of my clients by holding a "customer appreciation draw".  Two winners will receive a package of either my teacup or floral notecards.

As you can see from the photo above, Kenya (my teacup yorkie) has agreed to draw the winning names for me - but, only after I bribed her with the promise of not one, but two treats!   (I also had to shower her with loads of praise, hugs and kisses)   And well worth it....isn't she adorable?!

Without further ado the winner is............
#1 Andrea McKnight from Vermont, USA
#2 Vanessa Williamson from BC, Canada

I will be emailing these ladies to let them know they have won.

As a "THANK YOU" to my blog readers....
I will also GIVE AWAY 5 notecards to 5 readers.  For a chance to receive a free notecard all you have to do is leave a comment on this blog post.

I'm sure I can bribe Kenya to randomly paw (couldn't resist that one) 5 more names for me.

Thanks for stopping by, enjoy your day!

Best Wishes Arrives In A Shade Of Orange

The journey between what you once were and who you are now becoming is where the dance of life really takes place.  ~ Barbara DeAngelis

©Best Wishes, Watercolour and Ink, April 2015
    By Laura Leeder

I grew this beautiful orange rose in the flower garden of my previous home.  I was always in awe of it's shape, scent and it's many shades of orange.  I've taken several photos of it and while unpacking in my new home, I came across them once again.

When one  embarks on a new venture or is beginning a new journey, florists will often suggest the gift of orange roses.  They are considered to be the perfect floral gift to celebrate new beginnings.   The colour orange also suggests enthusiasm, energy and best wishes to name a few.

As I thought about these references to the orange rose an idea for a new painting began to take shape.

This is my first painting completed in my new home and studio.  For me it's whimsical design helps to reinforce a feeling of celebration and "Best Wishes" for our new home and future journeys.

Best Wishes will be available in notecards very soon.

Have a great week, THANK YOU for stopping by.

If you are in the Creston area, I have paintings on display in the Chamber Of Commerce and at Real Food Cafe.  A selection of notecards can be purchased locally at Creston Card and Stationary in the local art section and at Tigz Designs~Gift Baskets and Loose Leaf  Tea.

I'm Back In The Studio And Getting Into The Spring Of Things....

Welcome Spring!

©All photos by artist Laura Leeder, April 2015

What a busy few months it has been!  We've moved from the country into our new home in Creston. It is no small task sorting, purging, packing and cleaning an acreage and then unpacking and starting all over again.

Up until last week my new studio space  looked like this.

Just as soon as we had unpacked enough boxes to be semi-comfortable, we took off to Sandpoint, Idaho for a much needed break.  A few days relaxing by the lake, a shopping trip to Couer d' Alene, daily soaks in the hot tub and it was time to come home and continue unpacking boxes and settling in.

Keeping my eye on Kenya while she explores.............

Back home, it was time to head into the studio.

These pretty spring blossoms (primrose) encouraged me on as I worked my way through box after box.

With new lighting in place and a temporary table set-up, I am ready to get back to work.

I've been busy printing and packing notecard orders and shipping these off to new homes throughout the US and across Canada.    I've also added a few greetings to select cards in the teacup and floral series.  These will be available on-line in the next few weeks.

But I didn't stop there. Eager to get back into the "spring of things", I have started a small rose painting. This one is familiar to me as I've painted it before.  Although my goal here is to paint it's essence and not a realistic impression.
